as header..........need to downgrade so i can use my navman gps jacket (not supported with ppc2003 upgrades)
as i understand it, this was upgraded with the official hp rom version 4.00.08ENG (by the previous owner) using a cdrom that i don't have.
from my research here, it is possible to downgrade to the ppc2002 rom 2.10.
my question is .....can i download the software/can someone send it to me/can someone give me an idiot proof guide/instruction.
thanks to all who reply |

Are you sure? I flashed a 3970 to the 4.00.08ENG ROM to get version 4.20 of WM2003, installed the Navman 3.1.6 driver and TomTom3 is working fine with the Navman SE sleeve. |

I upgrade the 3970 using the standard HP WM2003 upgrade CD. The Navman 3.1.6 serial driver and GPS Info 1.3 programs I downloaded from here. I'd also flash upgraded the sleeve's firmware using the latest version from the Navman site. This combination works OK with TomTom 3. I've never actually installed the Navman ST software itself. |

' 3.1.6 does not support connected device type'
this is what i got before......navman technical say its not compatable!
when i do a soft reset the compaq window shows a version 4.00.
i have not tried to load the smart explorer software.

>how did you get the 4.20 version?<
The ROM is 4.00.08ENG, the 'About' screen shows Windows Pocket PC 4.20.1081 (Build 131000).
After upgrading the iPAQ ROM, the 3.1.6 Navman serial driver was the first s/w I installed. I'm also using the Navman SE sleeve, with 2.3.7 firmware. I'd flashed the sleeve before upgrading the iPAQ ROM.
The Navman sleeve appears as COM7, 57600 baud in GPS Info 1.3 |

i've just downgraded my 3970 from a "beta" 2003 to a 2.10 2002 .
1. dl the 2.10 rom
2. extrat the rom and open NK_Windsor21010WWE.nbf with an hex editor like ultraedit
you should see something like :
69 50 41 51 20 33 39 30 30 2D 57 42 54 2D 45 4E
47 2D 32 2E 31 30 2D 32 63 66 34 2D 2D 2D 2D 2D
FE 03 00 EA 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
remove :
69 50 41 51 20 33 39 30 30 2D 57 42 54 2D 45 4E
47 2D 32 2E 31 30 2D 32 63 66 34 2D 2D 2D 2D 2D
the file must start with :
FE 03 00 EA 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
3.save the file and rename it in as a .nb0 .
4. use the same updater then for the "beta" rom and instead of typing
"lnb nb.nb0" type "lnb thenameofyourfile.nb0"
5.have faith in god and wait about an hour
6.it worked for me and i hope for you too .
***********************************
if you still want to use this beta and use as well bt you can try to dl
the widcomm driver and then apply the hp bt patch (note you have to install both of them just after a hard reset else you 'll have great difficulties for installing it while the dll are in use ...)
i tried it several times myself but when bt was working i had some issue like each time you use the power buton you have to do a soft reset to boot it ...
***********************************
i hope that it can help a few stupid guys like me and that my english was not too bad to be understood . |

I downgraded my iPAQ 3970 back to 2002 easily using the version of 2.10 supplied on the upgrade cd.
My reason for downgrading is that the bluetooth manager within the 2003 upgrade (v4.0?) hung my 3970 everytime I tried to switch bluetooth on. Following an "active support" session online with HP involving a hard reset, everything worked OK until I reinstalled my software and appointments then the problem resurfaced. Anyone else have this problem?
