If you registered for a PLUS account using you device code prior to upgrading to a ver 5 GB map, then you may not be aware that your device code will have changed. If you subsequently order a premium voice under the premise of your old device code and unaware that it has changed, you will then find you premium voice wont work. It will be locked to your old code and hence useless. I have emailed Tomtom customer support ref this and queried why you can only change you device code once every six months? Those who are unable to change there device code will not be able to buy the likes of premium voices ...something I am sure Tomtom will want to address as this results in lost revenue and most likely some workload for there customer support to sort the ensuing mess.

Tomtom advise that my device code should not have changed with the issue of an updated map or device software. How I ended up with 2 device codes remains a mystery? They enabled me to change my device code and hence all is well.

My device code is locked into my TTG and is it's "identity"

I believe the product code is the one that changes with map upgrades. This is then entered by Tom Tom into a keygen along with the device code. The result will be an activation code.

Interestingly my 2005 map upgrade activation code did not work when used on a copy of the upgrade (to a 512MB SDcard) but I did manage to auto activate using the TTG SD card and that has in turn activated my 512MB SDcard copy.

I've emailed Tom Tom for an explanation.
