I bought my TTG from Maplin, and it never had a product code with it; it just worked. Apparently it was because it was a "grade B" TTG, and therefore is slightly "seconds", but everything should be in the box. Because it just worked out of the box, I never bothered with the product code, but the upgrade to V5 has meant that it was needed.
I'd been on to TT about this, and they suggested quite a few things, none of which worked. They put the blame totally on Maplin because they didn't supply the code. I even sent a scan of my receipt and everything as proof that I was the legal owner, but it didn't seem to matter. They weren't going to send me a new product code.
Their final word was this:
Quote:
The problem here, is that your GO has been activated by Maplin. Our product codes are not transferrable, which means that whoever activates the program the first time is the lifetime owner of the code and can not sell this second hand.
You should return your unit to Maplin and ask for a replacement as the unit you got there is Maplins property and can not be transferred to you.
Send it back!?! Just for a product code? I couldn't believe this, so I phoned them and after a 20 minute wait on the phone, I managed to get through. I told the story, and the chap was very good and just said that they'd e-mail me a new product code. Within 30 minutes it came through and all is now well.
The moral of the story is that the e-mail support is very hard faced, and won't really help, but the telephone support is much better!!
Just an addition that I'd forgotten; I did phone Maplin about this, and they said that they don't ever put the product codes on "Grade B" TTG's CD case as they stick it on the SD card case (for some reason). Sure enough there was a code there, but it turned out to be the Hardware Identifier!! (2D00.060.442).
