I had the same problem with an Arkon mount which I solved by selecting TomTom Wired GPS, it also woked on NMEA with a lower Baud rate.

I presume its a wired GPS? If so try using the TomTom cable GPS option instead of NMEA. It may take a minute or two to pick up the Sats. If the small yellow circle starts spinning you are sorted.
