unfortunately tom tom isn't at fault with the mapping, it's down to the mapping company's who supply tom tom with the maps

How many wires go into the square bit (connector block) what colour are they ? what is the make and model of your car ? It is a fairly simple job to fit a new socket if you have some help

Where does the cigarette lighter adapter connect to. If it is to the GPS reciever then the likelyhood is yes it does need to be plugged in to work.
