That will work fine. The only drawback you will find is that, if you're trying to go to a specific address in Belgium, then at some point once you're in Belgium you'll need to swap maps from GPplus to ... |

Use the 'Germany Plus' map off the CD, rather than the 'Germany' map and you'll find that it contains detailed maps Germany (as you'd expect) plus the Major roads of the rest of Europe.

And as for the units (distance and speed) you can leave them as miles and MPH if you like. It makes no difference to the functioning of TomTom.
