Think I've solved it due to the forum archives.

Turned off firewall, antivirus and spysweeper.
Ran the disk and chose the Repair option
Ran the 7.0.3 update again

OK - got it sorted. The information is all in the manual (just) but it's a steep learning curve!

Converting the Navman file was easy in notepad, and just saved it as .asc. Got there eventually!
