It looks like the planning speed for motorways is about 74mph. (could be 120kph)
On the TomTom One if you plan a journey and then use the route demo function it shows you on the screen what speeds it ... |

I plug mine in directly and never switch off and on whilst doing updates, I just pull the USB, which re-starts my TT. Hope this is of assistance.
