|
|
I am a new convert to Garmin after my Tomtom failed.
It has taken a couple of weeks to figure out the PGPS Voice Alerts.
All is now working well, except that the voice alert is repeated up to four times for the same camera. This can be "slightly annoying" even on a fairly short journey.
Also I cannot find any volume control for the alerts
Can anyone please help with this thanks. |

It's a pain, but sussamb wrote: | {snip} as it's very customisable if you use Kremmen's program. You can change icon size, use your own if you want, set whether you only get one or multiple warnings, how far in advance, whether you have over speed warnings or not, change the spoken announcements etc etc. The world as they say is your oyster
Info on Kremmens program is here

This multiple warnings syndrome is when Garmin assume you are speeding so issue overspeed alerts.
It's worse on variable speed Motorway sections because the associated PGPSW default speed is zero so you are always speeding. That's where I also used to get multiple warnings for each camera, then more if there was a camera on the opposite gantry.
Garmin also has a trait of storing the warnings and issuing them continuously so you could still be getting warnings a few hundred yards after the camera.
I also noticed that Garmin can issue overspeed warnings when you are on or close to the limit if it detects any acceleration that could put you over.
Both of the above scenarios I have covered in the GPX Converter thanks to enhancement requests. _________________ Satnav:

Thanks for the prompt replies, I will download the converter and see how things go.
The multiple alerts I am getting are on normal "A" roads with 30 or 40 mph speed limits, whilst driving well within the limit. I have also noticed a couple of warnings repeated after I have passed a particular camera. |

Presumably they are the same camera and not a fixed camera followed by mobiles? _________________ Satnav:

I have downloaded the CSV to GPX file Converter, and after some struggles (my fault), I have managed to download, convert & install the latest PGPSW UK Speed Zoned Complete, with WAV Voice Pack to my Garmin.
Just been for a short test drive taking in Gatso 20mph & 30mph, Red Light Cameras, & a Mobile Zone.
The warnings for Red Light and Mobile Zone were perfect......unfortunately the warnings for Fixed Camera's Both 20 & 30mph. I am still getting multiple warnings. Ie "Warning Fixed Camera 20/30 mph"
I get the first warning on approach, a second warning at the camera, and a third after I have passed the camera.
My speed was well below the posted limit especially on the outward journey as I was following a learner, so I don't think it's an overspeed warning.
Any further help would be greatly appreciated. |

Firstly, are you using the feet & mph setting in POILoader.
Second, set the Overspeed column in the GPX Converter to zero so you should only get the approach warning.
Have a search in this Garmin forum area because there are a few tutorials to get the best out of the Converter.
This may help:

SUCCESS !!!
Many thanks Kremmen, you have saved my sanity AND my Garmin (my wife was threatening to throw it out of the car window) !!
I already had feet & MPH selected in POI Loader, but I set the GPX Converter Overspeed column to Zero as per your suggestion, and now all works fine, I am getting the expected warnings only on approach and not multiple warnings as before.
Again many thanks
