I recently upgraded to TomTom 3.03. I've been having none of the problems that have been mentioned in this forum, but recently I've noticed that TomTom takes a long time to start up.
Sometimes it takes so long I think it's locked up and do a soft reset.
I did have rather a large number of POI files installed (about 10), though not all of them selected.
I also had CheckPOInt 3.2 running.
I'm using a 256MB CF card.
I've now reduced the number of POI files (about 5), and startup is quicker.
What's the POI limit for TomTom? Do they publish this? What's the limit at which TomTom becomes unusable?
Should I be using an SD card instead of a CF card? _________________ Geraint

I'd stick with CF for your map data, far more issues with SD than CF.
The limit on POI's isn't stated but it's the number of individual POI's rather than POI Databases that's the restricting factor, we're talking in the many thousands here though. What POI files do you have? Could the total of all the individual POI entries be large? Bear in mind that the Safety Camera database is 3000+ but I've only heard of problems when users have 20+ databases loaded with 10,000 or more individual POI's.
It could also be a corrupted POI file that's causing this, to check this, remove all the POI files from your SD card and add them back one by one. Also, are you using the Traffic plug-in? This had an issue with extended start-up times that was fixed in the 3.04T release.
Finally, try Storage Tools which is a superb utility that allows you to scan, verify, repair, defrag and or format your storage cards, well worth keeping installed. _________________ Darren Griffin
