Hi,

Im a newbie here and have only had my 1st SatNav for a week now and have had a fair share of probs getting to know whats what. Soz in advance if I seem dim and don't know any lingo....

Im using TomTom3 with iPaq 2210 with a 256 SDcard and I'm getting problems regarding map alignment - its approximately 600yds out. Im at a loss where to start (no pun intended) with settings, and dont really want to dabble in altering anything without some guidance. So could any of you pro's point me in the right direction (excuse the pun agen).

Best regards
Joe

Have you read the thread that was about 6 below this on this board on alignment or searched this forum for "alignment"? This could be the answer to your problem. Also try and search for "WGS84" which is a GPS datum setting.

If you have and this is not your problem, please post some more information about your GPS setup. This is the area where the problem is likely to lie.

Specifically, what GPS receiver are you using?

I did take a look at the other posting below this one but felt it the answers were a little advanced, so thought I'd create a new post 'from a beginner'.

The receiver I'm using is a serial cable version which is diamond shaped........hope thats what you meant Embarassed

Where will I find the 'datum setting'?

Ok - in the GPS status tab, which driver and port is it using?

Try the NMEA0183 4800 setting and see what happens....

have you read this
Fresh from the TomTom support site:

Question
Update 3.01 (409/2) for TomTom Navigator 3 for Pocket PC

Answer
Is this update for me ?

This update should be installed if you have TomTom Navigator 3 for Pocket PC.

Note: Do not use this update for the HP 2210 . A new update for Hp 2210 will be available as soon possible .

Please note:

- You do not need to uninstall your current version.

- On an empty machine (e.g. out of the box, or after a hard reset), you do need to install TomTom Navigator 3 from the original CD(s) before you install this update. (Remark: This is wrong, you can install 3.01 without first installing 3.0)

- You will not need to re-activate your software.

- This update cannot be used with TomTom Navigator for Palm

- This update cannot be used with TomTom Navigator 2 for Pocket PC. Upgrade to TomTom Navigator 3 first using the special upgrade offer upgrade page

The port is serial cable on com1 and I've switched to NMEA0183 4800....... I'm also using v3.02.

Will see how I get on..........many thanks for now! Laughing Out Loud

Update...........

Its not 100%.....Travelling to New Eltham from Gravesend was ok, but on the return journey, not only was I doing 5mph sitting at the traffic lights at Cross Lane East, it also told me I had arrived at my destination about 1minute after I'd pulled up!

Any further advice would be great.

Best regards
Joe

Another update.........

I had a trip to Eastbourne today and decided to 'test' the Nav again!

Well, I really had mixed results.........I decided to totally 'use' the Nav although I know what roads to go on to get there. Using the NMEA0183 4800 GPS setting it seemed to take an age to 're-calculate' when I took a wrong turning and I had to soft re-boot to unstick it. Mind you, that was after it told me I'd run out of memory!!! (thoughts anyone?)

Apart from it taking me a 'very' scenic route and almost 2hrs to get there, it was accurate until Tunbridge Wells. I decided to change back to 'TomTom Nav GPS' for reasons above. I had on average about 6 sats the whole journey.

On the return journey apart from it once again taking an age to re-calulate and on occassions soft re-booting, it seemed to be ok but this time, I found the directions a little bit advanced but luckily, I was on roads I was familiar with.

I'm wondering if I'm expecting toooooo much from my SatNav and should relax a bit.........However, I'm somewhat concerned that when I REALLY NEED it - will it be reliable? Up till now, I've just 'tested' it..........

If any of you Pro's could help once again, it would be very much appreciated.

Best regards
Joe

Have you got the recalculate option set to fast or normal etc. ?

If you use the nav in areas you know it very often takes you the way you wouldn't normally go but when I've used it in areas I don't know I've always got there and to be honest I don't care if it was the best way as long as I get there......

Looking at this thread, I'm struck that the problem may be memory card related.

If joe-rogers posts details of his memory card (type, size, brand and, crucially, any codes on the back of the card), I may be able to offer some more insight.
