hi guys, new here, i have been given a garmin nuvi 205w, i would like to ask if there is any way to update the maps for free or cheeply, i looked on there web site and then want £50 , I can go to ebay and buy a new system for that , any way any advice most welcom, it is currently on 2008 maps.

It would appear from a recent post that you can put Open Street View (or whatever it's called) on Garmins. Search the forum for it. It was posted yesterday or maybe this morning. |

But if you DO decide to try out an Openstreetmap, be sure not to delete your existing Garmin 2008 map - you may find you want to go back to it.
You can load an additional map on an SD card for the device to read. Name the map as gmapsupp.img and the Garmin should recognise it. Then, in Tools...Settings...Map you can switch from one map to the other.

But you probably wouldn't get one with up-to-date maps for that price, would you?
So you're back to square one....
(P.S. Maps DO cost s lot of money to produce, and selling them is how the satnav companies stay in business) _________________ "Settling in nicely" ;-) |
