In the Preferences under "Navigator View" there is an entry listed as "Move E-roads to the back". (just after "3D Automatic Zooming"
What does this mean? This entry is not listed in the manual. |

When a road has two names (like the A9 in Germany is also the E55 - (i'm making this up)) then the standard is to display it as
E55/A9
Now some people didn't like that because the E number is not always well known, so they asked to be able to swap the order to
A9/E55
That's all this is about. _________________ Lutz

D'OH I should have guessed that after the number of times I have looked at my paper map and seen a E number in Germany but not seen it on the signs. |

Just had a look in the manual (TT2 and TT3) and I can't find it.
As far as I am aware all roads also have an E number, this is an international road number. What TomTom does with this I am not sure.
See http://www.unece.org/trans/news/20011012e.html for more info.

Lutz's reply pretty much covers it - it's whether the E numbers appear first or not.
In mainland Europe, I believe roads are increasingly being resigned to show their E numbers. After all, many major routes cross borders, so using the E number makes sense. However, if you know the old road designations and/or the roads where you are haven't been signed with their E numbers, it may make more sense to allow you to prefer the national designations - which is the purpose of this configuration option.
I'm pretty sure some major routes on the UK mainland have E numbers - but as the UK is an island, they're less useful than in mainland Europe and may well be rather more of a curiosity.

True, but I don't even think I have ever seen an E number for a UK motorway, on a map or otherwise. They are very useful in Europe, but I know that the Germans do not use them on signs, but they do appear on a map of Germany, so long as it printed elsewhere. |
