|
|
I recently updated my TomTom GO 940 Live from 8.371.450680 to 9.058.568435.1 and now it routes like a dog. I have the Western Europe maps and the routing always felt a bit sluggish on 8.371 but now on 9.058 it is ridiculous, particularly on long journeys. After taking a wrong turn, when you are just desparate for it to re-route quickly, it just sits there "calculating" whilst you dangerously prevaricate or irritatingly drive in the wrong direction.
9.058 unfortunately seems to be the latest version, and as it was released last year I'm guessing that that will be the final offical version.
Were there any Navcore versions released between these two that were better? Or any later versions that I could shoehorn on? |

9,054 is another release you could try but that had a tendency to kill the Live services, to be honest I would put it back to 8,371 if I were you and see how it behaves as Navcore 9 doesn't really add any true functionality over what you had installed - Mike |

Shame there were no other releases. I have to say I haven't noticed any particularly useful functionality in the new release, but it is a lot prettier. Seems the processor just can't handle it.
Roll back it is then! |

FWIW, I really like the current 740 release. Sure, it has a few crashes, but overall it is quite usable. The 2D/3D switch button works well too. I've not found it too bad with routing. Make sure you have a decent SD card so it isn't too slow.
And TomTom did promise a fix for it, so I expect that is going to make everything perfect. (I do hope so, it has so much promise - I just don't think there will be any resource to work on it unfortunately, but I do hope they release an update anyway) |

I've gone back to 8.371 from 9.058.
It doesn't look like TomTom are going to solve the issue regarding slow connection times from startup to LIVE. Nice graphics though in 9.058.
Time now to loaded HD Traffic from OFF is 50secs. _________________ TT GO 1005 |

I don't use TTHome and I don't have any old 940 back-ups. I've just been trying to find a link to the 8.731 NavCore .CAB file but couldn't find one (I did, however, find lots of angst about the 8.371 - 9.054 - 9.058 upgrade/downgrade saga ).
Can any body help me out with a 8.731 NavCore download link please?
Many thanks, Ali. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Am I trying the impossible or should I persevere?
Until this morning my GO940 Live worked and had NavCore 9.058 with Eu & US maps v875.36xx.
Following the tried and tested phrase of "If it aint broke, fix it 'til it is" I've done just that.
I wanted to roll back to NavCore 8.371 and use v875 maps (which are the only ones I have). The reason is so that I can install a couple of 3rd party apps which do not work with NavCore 9.
Using the PC's file browser I have:-
Made a back up of the 940 onto my PC,
Formatted the TT to fat32,
Downloaded and extracted the 8.371 NavCore cab file and place it into TT's root.
Copied back the EU maps and rebooted the TT.
Each time I get a message saying "You cant use the Western & Central European Maps with this device."
I have repeated the above several times and the result is always the same.
Now, I know it's been a while since I last fiddled with customizing my TT's but I don't think that I have forgotten or left anything out so I'm wondering if the reason that it is not working is because the maps are not backwards compatible.
All Ideas warmly received.
Many thanks, AliOnHols. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Have you tried resetting the unit? (don't know if it has a dedicated reset hole or whether you need to hold the power button till you hear the drum sounds).
Also, you might try the Clear Flash tool (run it 3 times) found here:

Hi dhn, thanks for your reply.
Yes, Although I forgot to mention it, I had been doing the twenty-second-power-button-reset after every attempt. I have indented thumbs to prove it. Sadly, it didn't help.
However, I had forgotten about the Flash tool. I followed your link and have "installed" it about 15 times now, but it is not making any positive difference. The only difference it has made is that I'm now caught up in a rebooting loop!
I'll try it a couple of more times and then, if no joy, go back to formatting and re-installing.
Do you think that v875 maps should work with 8.371 NavCore?
Thanks once again, Ali. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Delete the MapSettings.cfg file in your map folder then see what it does - Mike |

Thanks for your reply mikealder.
I had forgotten about the MapSetings.cfg file too.
I have since deleted the file and it got me out of the rebooting loop but returned me to the Maps not Recognized page.
I've since downloaded the 8.371.Cab file to a different machine, and repeated the whole formatting and installing process over again, removing the mapsettings.cfg file, Re-doing Flash tool and power button re-set.
Alas, I can still get no further than-
"Problem with Map"
"You cannot use this map on this device:"
"Western_and_Central_Europe-386"
Could the 386 be significant? _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Just tried this on my 740. Apart from a message saying "The voice you selected is not availible" and then prompting me to choose a voice, all seems ok..... I did delete the mapsettings.cfg first.
However i copied this to a 4Gb SD card. The current 9.401 Navcore is still installed to the main memory so i'm not sure if this has any bearing on my success.... |

If Navcore is loaded to the memory card it will boot using this in preference to the version installed to the internal memory - Mike |
