My Live subscription is coming to an end and as I only use the traffic service it would be cheaper to buy it from the iPhone app at £23 rather than for the PND at £47.
I've asked tom-tom and got no sensible answers so has anyone installed it on an iPad AND have HD traffic working?
I don't want to buy it if the server rejects the iPad because it's not a supported device.
My old eyes would struggle on the phone screen so want the bigger screen.
If traffic doesn't work on iPad I'll stick with the PND for now.

Any advice welcome.

Maybe this is a hint - I searched App store for TomTom and got this - No app, so presumably TT doesn't work on iPad.

Thanks Dennis

As I understand it though, all iPhone apps work on iPad and if they are not built to fill the screen then the iPad will double the pixel resolution and you'll have a black border around the edge.

There are YouTube videos showing it working on iPad so I now need to know if HD traffic will work before I buy the subscription.

Cheers

Well, up to you, but guess how much help you'll get from TT if it doesn't go well.

And instead of paying £47 for Live services, you'd pay £50 to buy the app and another £23 to get HD traffic? Confused

I've already got the app on the iphone4 just not the traffic bit. So it would still work on my phone if it had to.

I just want traffic on a bigger screen if possible.

If you've already got the TT app then just try it on the iPad and see how it does. Early on it didn't work properly with the iPad, tracking but not following your position. Might be fixed now. If it works, try the traffic add-on. I do understand that Navigon's iPhone app was working properly from the beginning according to a review when the iPad was originally released. http://www.gpsreview.net/ipad-gps-navigation-preview/

Why not try one day of HD Traffic to make sure it works before purchasing the full year? - Mike

Thanks all especially Darren for the answer I wanted to hear.

I couldn't try it on the iPad as I haven't got it yet! Was getting one but have now held off to see what tomorrows announcement by Apple will bring to ipad2.

At least I now know it'll work so I can subscribe via the in app purchase when my Live sub runs out and use it on the iPhone in the interim.

Thanks for changing the PGPSW licensing rules too! Which means I can have Cameralert on both devices when I acquire the iPad.

Cheers all

Or you could use another satnav app,Smile like Navigon, (there is an IPAD Version) which has traffic available for a small upgrade and has it updated via 3g. don'y know Live HD and maybe its not as good as TT but it seems to work well enough, auto rerouting etc

I've got Navigon and Traffic but prefer the way that TT implement it. I find the Navigon fiddly to see what's going on.
So I've got a backup plan but would prefer the TT on it.
Got to wait to the 25th now anyway for iPad2 release day!
Very Happy

Is your iPad a basic one with wi-fi only or one with a 3G card and a SIM?

If you only have the basic iPad, you don't get a GPS receiver. It works out your position approximately using local free wi-fi sources.

BUT there is a rumour that you can use the GPS receiver on an iPhone or other device and set it to be a hotspot and connect it to the iPad. Then the iPad uses the other as a GPS receiver.

I'm not sure whether you can link with bluetooth or whether you need a wired connection. If yo need wired then you need the iPad camera connection kit which connects anything with a USB plug on it.

Always assuming that this rumour is true!! Smile

Yes, I'll clarify the matter with TomTom.
