Ok,

so it's time to buy some more toys and I'm thinking that it would be cool to get a pda / mobile phone combo.

Then I started thinking a bit more and I thought it would be cool to use this pda / phone in the car as a GPS navigation system. This is when I found your excellent website.

This is what I want in the pda / phone:
- small as possible
- colour screen
- best resolution possible
- bluetooth
- phone capability
- able to play mp3 & if possible radio
- camera (not that important though)

This is what I want in the gps system:
- must work properly for navigation
- something that can be removed from the car easily so can use this gps functionality outside of the car
- connects to the pda without alot of messing around
- powered by the pda or battery powered with 12v dc capability
- loud enough to hear or can connect to external speaker

I'd really like to get some feedback from anyone that has setup gps in their car and run it on their pda - I'm particularly interested to know if you needed an external aerial or not.

So come on guys, give me some recommendations about what pda / phone / gps / software setup I should get!!!

If your not in a rush to invest in a set up right now, it might be wise to hold back for a few months, there is a lot of new products waiting in the side lines like the new generation of phone enabled PDA'S from HP, from what i have found out there new ipaq 6300 is about the size of the 2100 series( yet to be confirmed) and will have phone capabilities and the latest version of Microsoft’s PPC software.

Again with GPS there are new things waiting to be released although no one will actually tell you or confirm when it will be, there seems to be a rumbling in the co pilot corner which may be worth waiting for if it ever happens!!

TT3, which I have, is OK but there are a lot of mapping errors does for getting you there or there about’s but if you live near to or will ever want to use the M6 toll or surrounding roads for example it’s not on there maps.

TT seem to release new software approx yearly so you would have to wait until January or so before hopefully these roads and many others are included oh and you will have to pay again for the software! Nothing is free! There are also some issues with bluetooth depending on which PDA you buy.

All i would suggest to you is don’t jump with both feet as it can be an expensive toy to have if its not the right one for you, spend some time surfing through the many pages of the forums on this site, you will soon become drawn to the winners and losers and in my experience the people who use this site will help you.

Actually HP's forthcoming h6300 Phone Edition PDA is looking to be a poor option already Sad

It won't be released with Wm2003SE so will be out of date before it's available and has a slow processor with only 64MB of RAM. It does have WLAN which is welcome though.

brighthand probabbly it does look like it will be a poor realtion to the xda2 which works fine at the moment and it still at the top of most peoples list also i though i saw somewhere that tomtom was getting ready to realse navigator for smartphone in the future for phones such as the erricson p900 and ms smartphones like the spv and some nokias so it couldbe worth waiting a while but if you want in next few months id go with the xda2
