As regular reader may well have noticed I have been asking a large number of question about the 1695.
I tool delivery of this sat nav just two weeks ago after many years of using Tomtoms. In general I found the TTs easy to use and offered me all ii required but my last one, a GO960 continually froze during boot up and I got fed up with the continual reloading of the software and the fact that it was often unusable when really needed.
With the new Garmin I found that I was totally at sea with the implementation of personal pois but with the superb help from members of this forum the learning curve has been very steep and I am now reasonably confident over there use.
However there is one final area to be understood. In a folder on my computer I have a folder containing all the personal pois I wish to add to my Garmin. This folder has four sub folders each containing specialised groups of pois, such as the pgpsw speed zoned complete for EU, the UK, the USA and a fourth called MyPois, The latter folder also has sub folders containing further pois.
I now confidently use PoiLoader to place these on the Garmin. The speed cams I load separately for the EU, the UK and the USA allowing me to chooses the correct speed warning units (feet/mph or metres/km/hr). I then use the PoiLoader the load the final directory called MyPois. Each time I use the PoiLoader I rename the new file (poi.gpi) to something more useful, such as, for example, pgpswSpeedcamsUSA.gpi.
Using "Where To?", "Extras" then "Custom Pois" I get a full list of the Pois I have loaded.
Initially loads pf speedcams for the EU, then loads speed cams for the UK and then loads speed cams for the USA.
Finally I get three groups of my own pois which I have initially called "Florida Holiday", "General01 and "General02".
I used General01 and General02 as the first loading failed with the error "only 32 categories of Pois allowed in one folder".
I have read that the display order of pois is not alphabetical but relates to the order held on the computer.
My two questions are:
1. It would appear that the order in which I loaded the gpi files determines the order displayed - is this correct?
2. The order of pois within any one gpi files is somehow determined by the order the Poiloader finds them - is this correct? If so how can I rearrange the pois on the computer to influence the display order?
Anyone getting to the end of this post deserves a medal!!!! _________________ David
