I'm think of buying the garmin nuLink 1695, and have noticed that this includes a free speed camera downloads for a year.
Does anyone know if these downloads are as good and as up to date as Pocket GPS World's are?

FWIW, Garmin's data comes from Coyote.

Duh. . .
That's the second time this week I've referred to them as Coyote. It's CYCLOPS!

Perhaps I should write that on the blackboard a few hundred times Stop it!

Question

The company that provides speed camera data to Garmin. See the second post here and replace the word Cyote with Cyclops.

This could run and run.... Laughing

From what I've heard, it's not bad.

Probably like the TomTom one, it's getting reasonable for fixed cameras but lacking on mobile sites.

But you're still going to get lots of people (including me) saying they would rather trust the PGPSW data.

a friend of mine used to subscribe to the cyclops database on a specific cyclops speed camera 'detector'.

there's a string of 7 speed cameras in close proximity near where we live - 6 in the 50 zone and one just into the 30 zone. they had all the 50's in their database but not the 30. for 3 years my friend told them they were missing this camera yet they never added it. (the camera has been there for about 10 years now anyway!).

when they phoned him to ask if he was renewing he said 'no'. when they asked why, he explained that they weren't adding an old camera that he had told them about multiple times so why should he trust any of their data?

in the end he DID renew because they promised they would get the camera added to the database. it still took a further 6 months and 2 more phone calls to them though...

so that's mine and my friends experience of Cyclops! i also mentioned a handful of shortfalls in their data around leeds and bradford in a review I did a couple of years ago of a nuvi 7XX but they complained that it was unfair of us to review their database as we are competitors and, against my wishes, that part of the review was removed. even though i made it clear that i was only mentioning the database as it was preinstalled on the device when you took it out of the box.

If I had a choice, and even if i wasn;t being biassed!, I'd opt for the PGPSW database. mainly because you know when it will be updated, you can check our coverage on our map, you know exactly how we get the data and you can also get it free for life if you help us out (terms apply etc etc)
