MOD ERATOR NOTE:
Split from this topic Western and Central Europe 2GB, Cannot use this map on this, as it is a different issue.
I have a 750 live
with app 9.054.513676
and have just downloaded the latest map as part of my "map deal"
the map is Europe_2GB v860.3102
I was delighted to find that it had roads that have been here for 10 years -- even my home road and I am not now in a field !!!
My problem is that the device now keeps locking up..
When I want to go somewhere and try to use
Navigate to and then the
AB CD Address it goes to the next screen where it has the
Street and House number selection
- just as I press the pictal greys out and the Tom locks up..
Nothing will make it move.
If I leave it sitting and after after mins it switches off and starts revving up.
Try again and it still locks up at this same point or any where on that screen.
any ideas for Help please

Have you tried:
1. deleting the MapSettings.cfg file from within the map folder?
(You'll lose your favourites etc. but if you back it up first we can recover those for you later)
2. Reinstalling the main software? |

thanks for the prompt reply and offers of help..
it is a 750Live -- my error in my first post..
I am very nervous at doing things --
I will back up my MapSettings.cfg as I have done this before.
As to reinstalling the main soft ware??
Is that the same as restoring system defaults??

MapSettings.cfg is a file that you can happily delete, as if the system doesn't find it when you switch the TomTom on, it will just create a new "fresh" one.
The new one won't have any of your old settings in it like favourites, POI warnings, recent destinations etc. but if it was causing problems then it's often better to start again with a new one.
The reason for keeping a backup of your old one is twofold, if removing it doesn't help the problem you're having you can put it back and if there were any destinations of favourites you really wanted, it's possible to open it in various ways to recover them.
As for replacing the system software, probably the easiest way is to delete all the files on the TomTom that are NOT inside folders (do not delete any of the folders either).
Then if you connect to TomTom Home, it will realise the software is missing and download the latest version again.
Before you do anything, back up the ENTIRE TomTom storage first, by copy and pasting the whole lot onto your PC - just in case anything goes wrong.
Instructions for all of this are in the FAQs at the top of this forum section.
Any more questions, just shout! |

I don't know what I have done..
But -- I copied the favourites file to my desk top --
then connected to tom-tom home again --
did a download of updates etc.. Fuel - speed cams -map changes etc.
and the tried working it from within TTHome -- and it all seemed OK.
So fingers crossed - I disconnected and started over -- OK no signal in the house -- but dis a planning route - and it all worked OK -- even the screen with the AB CD Streets etc..
so that was OK..
Took it into the garden [ to get a signal] and tried over again and yes !!! it is working..
So I don't know WHAT went wrong but it certainly didn't work..
Very cautiously downloaded the latest map on to wifes 740Live and the worked OK as well..
Thanks for your help -- I was very nervous about touching the thing..
Wish there was a shop you could send them to

Don't know how they've ended up different, but it's fixable...
You need to put the OLD complete Europe map back onto the 740's SD card (ensure it's the only Europe map on the entire device), then re-connect to TT Home and it should offer to download the v860 map again, and this time it should offer the complete map. |
