Hi All, First post so be gentle with me please.
I am after a Tom Tom for my sister for Christmas. The two specs I would most like are that it should be Bluetooth compatible, so she can use it for hands free with her I Phone. The second is the smart lane??? So it tells you which lane to be in.
I am trying to buy it within a budget (aren't we all) so sugestions as to where the cheapest place to buy it from would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Bluetooth hands-free: This means you need to be looking at the "Go" ranges, as none of the "One" models has it.
'Advanced Lane guidance' (a set of arrows showing the correct lanes) and 'Reality view' (a pretty picture of the lanes - on most motorway junctions but not all) are available on all recent TomToms.
So you should be looking at the 540/740/940 and 550/750/950 if you want the latest models (the x50 ones are LOWER spec in some ways than the x40's)
But there are some fantastic deals on the slightly older x30 and x20 models which are just as good - see other recent topics for some links.
EDIT - Forgot to mention that in the model numbers the first digit is a '5' for UK and Ireland maps, a '7' for Europe maps and a '9' for Europe AND North America maps.

If all you want is UK&ROI mapping then have a look at This for a bargain, once updated to the latest application and map (all free the first time you do it) it will fit the requirements list very well sporting ALG/ reality view and hands free support for the phone - Mike |

Indeed they are UK based, the only trade counter they have (which is open to the public) is in Preston near the M55/ M6 junction so if you live in Lancashire a small trip will save you the postage, otherwise its mail order with the associated cost - Mike |

I have ordered and paid for it and got a hard case for it from the dreaded bay.
Way better spec than anything I had managed to find in 3 hours of surfing.
Thanks again.

When it arives make a full backup using Windows Explorer to your PC before doing anything else with it.
Next download and install the latest TomTom Home software to your PC which is available from Here
Connect the device to the PC and use the Home application to update the device to the latest Navcore application, you might need to do this a number of times as it tends to update in steps.
Finally use Latest Map Gaurantee to download and install the latest map and you will have a device that rivals the latest units costing over twice as much - Mike |

I purchased my TT GO 520 from CPC about 6 weeks ago standard delivery was free. I ordered on Saturday morning and it arrived the following Monday by a courier service. That's pretty good by any standard over the weekend but when its included in the price I think its very good value. As Mike says its all updated to latest maps and operating system now, so its equivalent to a 530.
The £124.95 price includes VAT as well. |

Make sure you do it in the order Mike suggests...
Do not update the map until you have fully updated the software, otherwise you may get an older map (and you only get one chance at it). |

Thanks to all for the help. My misses bought me a 5" one from Hong Kong, but UK seller. faulty, but I found it doesn't have postcode search, so trying to wangle a refund, if we can sort that, I will probably order a second one for me. Give up size for quality (At my age, a larger screen would have been nice.
Thanks again guys.
