|
|
I've got a Garmin 1240 that I am using as a walking travel device, planning trips etc so will be downloading millions of POIs.
I've downloaded all the Wetherpoons pubs and associated an icon with it. All looks correct on the map but if I do a search of POIs by name around my area it does not display them on the list. Is there a way to make the system recognise the POIs on the list as well as the map ? The device has some Wetherspoons pubs already on there and it does display those. I am thinking there must be some extra file info or folder structure I need to use to get it to integrate it more into the device. Or is there a POI loader that will allow me to choose categories in the Garmin. The Garmin POI loader obviously doesn't do it. |

Are you looking at the Garmin list of POIs or under Extras, Custom POIs? Your POIs will appear under a seperate list called Custom POIs. |

Hi there, No there is nothing in the Extras list at all. I used the Garmin POI loader to load a CSV file and BMP. Perhaps I need another POI loader which enables me to add categories etc. Would you know the best software for this ? Thanks for your help. |

POILoader is the only software you need and there is only one version of it. Try reloading the files again. When you downloaded the file what format was the file in? CSV is usual. If the file was zipped you need to unzip the file first and unload the files inside.
When POILoader finished what message did it display? |

It has loaded all the points of interest and the icons show on the map correctly but it just doesn't appear on any lists which defeats the object. I notice that there are POI downloads for Garmin specifially for example one download on my PC shows three files - a BMP, GDB and WPT file. Perhaps I should be loading these files in to get proper integration. Perhaps a standard CSV file on it's own won't fully integrate the POI. |

I've got no idea what the GDB and WPT files are.
In order to load your own POIs you need a correctly formated CSV file and a BMP with the same name. You load these with the one standard version of POILoader that is available. No special versions. That's it. You say they appear on the map but I'm not sure why they are not appearing on the Custom POI list. They should.
Can you link to the file you downloaded?
You'll see from my signature that i have 765T. Previous to that i had a 760 and a StreetPilot i3. All 3 units and every other Nuvi unit uses the same method to install Custom POIs. There is no other method.
I believe you have followed the correct steps but there must be something about the file that is wrong.
Have you tried one of the POI files from PGPSW? Try something like BP Fuel or Sainsburys. See if that works.
It's also possible there is a bug in the unit software. Have you tried using WebUpdater to make sure the unit software is up to date? |

Thanks - I'll try those suggestions. If I get no joy I'll ask Garmin support. Cheers for your help. |
