I have just bought a new Nuvi 1490t and downloaded the POI files for both speedcameras and pubs, hotels etc.
the software built into my Nuvi dont seem to work in the same way my TomTom works and the POI for pubs etc dont come up on route or sound. How can I make these and other POI's work like TomTom file? Garmin seem to have loads of hidden files so I am unable to access then and add other files in.
Does anyone know how to get POI's working on the 1490T?

POILoader was used as instructed by Garmin and all files in one folder proir to uplaoding

My membership is wasted at the moment for speed cameras and free POI's.Crying or Very sad

regards

Guy

Are you using the 'POILoader' software to load the files? - You need to.

Are you collecting ALL your POIs together in one folder on the PC and then using POILoader to load them all in one go? - You need to.

I'm no Garmin expert, but those are the two things I do know...

Hey, you edited your first post to make it look like I hadn't read it! Mad

I can't imagine it's Garmin's software, or a lot more Nuvi users would be complaining.

But I'll butt out now and let the Garmin experts take over.

What is the exact issue, you don't actually say? What doesn't work?

Well, its the POI's that I downloaded via / with 'POILoader' they all end up on my Garmin Nuvi 1490T but they dont sound off and dont pop up when I pass by the POI ( ie Church or Bell tower) I think that the files wont work as well as the TomTom files do...To be honist, I think the Garmin's software is not as good as TomTom. Pocketgpsworld POI's are not operating as I had hoped ( CVS files are the right one's? I hope.)

Passing normal POIs won't sound an alert unless you use Manual Mode in POILoader to set a Proximity Alert.

The Speed Camera Database does set up Proximity ALerts by default as it contains the magic words (GATSO, Redlight, SPECS and Mobile).

There are other ways to make Proximity Alerts work with POILoader and it's all in the POILoader help file. (Open POILoader and press F1 on your keyboard)

The icons should appear regardless of settings but Garmin seem to switch the POIs off over a certain zoom level so sometimes you have to zoomed in quite a way.

Also if you load too many categories (over 255 i believe) you may see no icons at all and just a grey dot.

Thanks for the advice to all who reponded.
The loader help page was a help and answered the problem.
