I've heard that the FM transmitter on the 930 will only transmit music from mp3 files and not satnav voice directions or sounds.
Is that correct and, if it is, is there a workaround? _________________ Frank |

The 930 device will use FM Tx for music and can also send Nav instructions/ camera warnings via FM Tx IF the mp3 player is running, you cannot have just the nav instructions via FM Tx due to European directives about FM Transmitters.
The way around this stupid system is to install a silent mp3 track and set the device to loop that track all the time, this way you only get the Navigation and POI Warnings through the FM Tx - Mike |

To expand a bit on mikes answer.
If there is nothing to transmit for more than (I think) 20 seconds, TomTom turns the FM trasmitter off. What this means is that of you do not have music playing, the transmitter turns off between voice instructions. Once that happens, the radio emits a nasty hiss.
To get round this, you set up the music player to play an mp3 file of no sound at all - then TomTom thinks something is always transmitting and doesn't turn off the FM device. When instructions are ready to be sent, TT stops the music, sends the instructions and (assuming no bugs ha ha) starts the music again.
I hope that makes sense

Thanks Mike, thanks, Alan.
Complete sense!
All I have to do now is choose a silent track.

@digital. Andy_P recorded a silent mp3 track and posted it on this forum a couple of months ago. I think he called it silence_is_golden.mp3 although I cant find it at the moment. I also think that there are two variations of it:- a shorter early one and a longer one which followed later. If you manage to find them both, use the longer one. _________________ Garmin Nuvi 2599

Just use the first movement...

Sorry for being a bit thick, but when I click on the links below I can't see the mp3 file to download. I just get linked through to a WIKIPEDIA web page with the history of the composer.
Where is the mp3 download for the silent track?

The links to the files are on the forum thread digital posted on 28/8 at 23:43.
In theory, 4'33" should not actually be silent - it should be a recording of an orchestra playing the piece in front of a live audience so you get the ambient background noise.
Is it available for download from iTunes etc? _________________ Gerry
