Not familiar with the TT One, but did you create a backup on your PC? If you did, copying that back onto the One should fix the problem.

Hi there, this has happened to me on more than one occasion and appears to only occur if you let the battery run down.

Before switching on the TomTom One after a period of inactivity, charge for at least 1 hour. If it still freezes, use an opened paper clip to activate the reset button on the bottom (I now hava paper clip attached to the protective case Very Happy ).

Can't help with recovery but use TomTom home to backup every Friday prior to downloading the new PGPW speed camera data. Also, do this prior to TomTom Home doing a Ephemeris update just in case Very Happy

Regards,

Ken

Getting the thing charged up would be the first thing to do. Not sure you actually need to update anything to get it to turn on again.

As for backups, I'd forget Home as it doesn't always back up everything and overwrites the previous backup. Better to use Windows Explorer - see #1 in the TomTom FAQ. Doing regular backup - especially before any updates - is always a good idea regardless.

thanks you guys for all your replies and help. i've charged for 2 hours already but it's the same thing. tried deleting everything and installing again, tried updating the latest software. The only thing i can think of is it's not installing the new software completely as the total size of the file when downloading shows 19mb and after install it only shows 9mb on the unit in tt home. what could be the problem???? Crying or Very sad

PLEASE NOTE

TRY THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK IF YOU DON'T HAVE A FULL WINDOWS EXPLORER BACK-UP TAKEN BEFORE THE PROBLEM OCCOURED.

The only other thing I can think of is to connect your unit to your main pc. It should then be seen as a Removable Disk.

Right Click on that Removable Disk and then Properties - select the Tools tab and then on the Error Checking... use Check Now...

It seems to me that your units internal memory has got corrupted in some way.

Do you know exactly which TomTom One device you own? check this by viewing the contents of the device via Windows Explorer, right click the file ttgo.bif which you will find in the root of the device, then select Open With/ NotePad one of the lines in that file will state the TomTom One version number - what is it - Once we know that we can supply a direct link to the Navcore download for the device and some details on how to install it - Mike

The ONE (30 Series) is a version 4 I think with the EasyPort Mount.

Does it look like this ONE :

Yet in an earlier post you mention a Memory Card. The ONE (30 Series) does not have a Memory Card slot, but it does refer to the memory when connect to HOME as Memory Card, so is that why you are refering to the Memory Card.

If it is a ONE v4 then when mine was new it had App 7502 running Map 715

The App now shows as 8.010 (which is the latest App for this model) and Map 815.2024 (not the latest map).

Okay.

If you look on the root directory of your ONE via Windows Explorer you should have 14 folder I think (when it was new).

** list of 14 folders **

contacts
gl
gns
helpme
home images
itn
licences
logging
sounds
TomTom HOME Install.app
TomTom-Cfg
United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland
voices
zip

** list of 18 files **

antitheft.bmp - size 226 KB
autorun.inf - size 1 KB
CurrentMap.dat - size 1 KB
data.chk - size 5,242 KB
gprscom.conf - size 1 KB
gprssettings.dat - size 1 KB
InstallTomTomHOME.exe - size 340 KB
mctx.dat - size 1 KB
pluserror.txt - size 1 KB
PNDNavigator - size 4,461 KB
settings.dat - size 1 KB
splash.bmp size 226 KB
system - size 700 KB
tomtom.ico - size 69 KB
ttgo.bif - size 2 KB
ttsystem - size 3,879 KB
uk_map.txt - size 1 KB
UserPatch.dat - size 1 KB

Now do you have ALL the folders ?
Do you have ALL the files ?

And do the file sizes look the same.

No that list looks pretty good to me.

If you now have a backup (even one made after the problems started is better then nothing!)

I would try REMOVING all the individual files from the device. Leave all the folders and their contents alone.

Then run Home and select "Update" to get a fresh copy of the operating system files.
