Driving to work today there was a marked estate car and camera parked up in a lay by. Looked like a speed check but when I got there, the car had DVLA Tax Check on the side. I guess the camera is reading number plates not clocking the speed? |

That's right. Also known as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR). |

Hi johalareewi,
Totally agree with ANPR being used to check for vehicles without tax. Hopefully a little distance down the road you may have seen some police interception vehicles (often motorbikes) ready to stop any vehicles that the Tax check found and radioed the details.
In addition to the vehicles that are not taxed, the following is often the case as well: The vehicle may not have a valid MOT certificate, in fact the vehicle may well have one or more serious dangerous defects, the driver may not be insured to drive that vehicle, the driver may not have a valid driving licence, the driver may be a wanted criminal, etc.
Anything that the authorities do to remove the untaxed vehicles from our roads should be applauded by the legitimate drivers in this country.
That's why we don't include Tax ANPR locations in the PocketGPSWorld camera database.

ANPR,I am all for it gets those who think they can flout the law,Over the week end in Chelmsford [V Festival]they had the full ANPR interceptor team out in force, more often than not when they pulled up a car they had two interceptor cars one in front and one behind, but on the A2 they pulled one car with no less than Five ! interceptors, the car was completely boxed in.
On a happier side they were letting people sit in & pose and take photos of the Latest scooby car they have. _________________ Square2024

Is that the crew who feature in the Channel 5 "fly on the wall" series?
If so - they do have some nice cars! |

What I'd like to know is what are Essex Police vehicles doing on the A2 in Kent. They were parked up at Bluewater in one of the programmes. |
