|
|
Having moved from 8.320 to 8.302...
Simple enough except that MapSettings.cfg file gave me startup lockups and reboots most - but not every (strange!) time until deleted and recreated. (If they are going to keep making it incompatible each rev they could at least version it so that it is rejected by the new code, not left to maybe work.)
... the question is:
Has anyone established whether it is better to use stay with Loquendo TTS 7 or stick with the older 6.9 for v8.302?
TIA! _________________ Go Premium X / Go 1005 |

I haven't done any comparative tests, but I stuck with v6 voices (as I wanted to see if TomTom's eventual solutions worked on their own).
From what we've written of our experiences since, it doesn't seem to make much difference which version you have now. It's a good improvement but not perfect with either. |

Well that about covers it then!
But if you 2 guys are both happy with different versions, then it really can't make any diff. I'll stick with what I got. _________________ Go Premium X / Go 1005 |

I don't believe TomTom have ever said that the mapsettings.cfg file would be compatible across versions.
It's better to use a POI set rather than favourites for the locations. That only leaves setting the home location and setting up the warnings again when you change - and that gets quicker each time you do it.
After trying TTS V7, I've also gone back as it made no difference to me. _________________ Gerry

Don't disagree. My point was that if it is going to cause boot issues, etc., then they really ought to refuse to read the wrong version. Or simply wipe it out in the new app install process. _________________ Go Premium X / Go 1005 |

Actually, they have....
Transferring favourites to your new map
....from their own Helpfiles.
They've not got round to updating it yet, to say it might not work any more!
But the most realistic comment I've heard from someone at TomTom was that we were just lucky that it always used to work and that we should consider it a "bonus" if it works in the future... |

When I installed the newer 8,302 Navcore to the 720 I also put the version 6 TTS files/ folders back on the device, I have had no real issues with the unit since doing this. It does occasionally say "Follow..ollo A583 Preston New Road For 2.3 Miles" but so does the 930 with the version 7 TTS data installed - nothing like the stammer it did with 8,300 or 8,301 - Mike |

Yes I agree with Mike,
I rolled back to 8.300 with 6 tts from 8.320 with 7 tts to update to the 8.302. I did a 4 hour trip today running the new application and it is much better, a little hesitant, and occasionally the words cut a little short, but I think a lot of it was me being paranoid. All in all, so far so good! |
