I live near Harlow and all this week my 540 won't connect to the traffic server in the mornings. If I try to force an update I get a red screen with "an error has occured on your device try again". Also sometimes it says information is up to date but on browsing the map there are no incidents shown. I would assume it a hardware problem but other times in the day it can work fine. Have any other x40 users had any problems just this week?
UPDATE Its 9.25 and it has finally updated correctly - surely this must be server related? |

I've had no problems this week, using the device between approx. 05:40 and 07:00, travelling from Gatwick to Hornsey via the M25/A40/A406. _________________ Tim |

Really weird - now I'm at work it is working fine but hasn't worked at all this week on my way in. I've checked the signal which is ok and other services are not affected only traffic. |

Next time it happens, hold down the on off button for up to 30 seconds until it fully reboots with the drum roll and the black screen with the TT logo in the middle. This should clear any passing lock-ups. _________________ Drivelux |

I did a return journey yesterday of about 25 miles each way going out at about 0900 and returning about 1300.
On both occasions it took at least 5 minutes to receive any traffic info as opposed to the more usual less than 1 minute. WHen I checked it was saying it couldn't connect to the server and then moments later.............. |

However i will add when i needed it the other day it worked fine. Nicely dodged round loads of standing traffic. In future if i need to use it in the morning i'll switch it on a bit earlier than i need it... |

Thanks - I'm reassured that someone else had the same problem - it has been working fine all day since and it is only this week that I have had problems. I'll switch it on a bit earlier before I leave tomorrow to see what happens then. |

There's probably loads of people switching on and trying to get info at the same time, bit like when you have disasters and the phones get jammed with calls. |

That's what I'd assume, but it has worked fine for the 2-3 weeks prior to this week. |

As TT use a SIM card from Voda to get the information to the device it may actually be a problem with Vodafone, or at least the network local to you. Mobile networks are constantly been upgraded and will be off air on occasion. Sometimes, whole areas of the country can be off air if its a major problem.
Just 2 weeks ago I knocked off comms to EIGHT mobile phone sites (wont mention the network name, ) for about an hour and half.....ooops.

I think it must be a local network problem and that's why I was hoping to get feedback from other users of HD traffic in my area. As the problem has lasted all week though I was more concerned and if this is related to the increasing number of new users trying to connect at the same time then TomTom/Vodafone need to get their act together IMO. |

I live in Biggleswade not so far away from Harlow and confirm that I've experienced similar problems this morning. During my 2 hour drive to work I had three occurances of the yellow triangle indicating that it cannot connect. When it did connect and showed that it was upto date not traffic incindents were shown. This was when A421 was closed due to an accident and the traffic was tailing back up the motorway to J14, there were a further 4 incidents on the A507 that were not shown.
My journey to work is normally 55 minutes, today it was 2 hrs and not once a traffic incident was shown. |

This morning switched 740 on at 8:55. After a minute it reported the traffic was up to date, but showed nothing. The HD Traffic website showed loads of problems. I left it on my desk and 5 minutes later it suddenly updated with London covered in traffic reports as per the HD Traffic Website. I think the problem is the number of people logging in early, the quantity of data and the servers & network can't cope. Looks like the answer is to switch on 20 minutes or so before you leave and just leave the unit stationary to pick up signal and download the data. |
