|
|
after subscribing to pocketgps and downloading the relavent database I have tried different locations on the unit to try to get the GO730 to recognise the POI files without any success. The POI's on GO730 end in *.tlv. If this is the case are the POI's at PWgps conpatable?
From my point of view either the instructions supplied are incorrect or the files supplied are not compatable? |

Hi and welcome.

If either were true would you not expect a few more complaints here?
The files you download should be ZIP files that contain OV2 data files with matching BMP icons.
Once downloaded you need to unzip the files and copy them to the map folder on your TomTom. That's it.
Where exactly is it going wrong for you? |

The POIs are fully compatible so you must be doing something wrong. Have you followed the installation guide here?
You need to ensure you have unzipped the downloaded files and copied them to the correct folder and then you need to configure them for alerts. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I think you've confused or missed the installation instructions completely, mate.
Tom Tom POI files (whether from TomTom themselves or third-party sites such as this, or ones you make yourself) are ALWAYS in *.ov2 format (along with an identically named *.bmp icon file).
These two POI files always go in the map folder ("Western Europe", "Great Britain and Ireland" or whatever) like they always have. Nothing has changed there...
However, TomTom have recently added a folder called "poi" on the device in which it places small additional *.tlv files for their OWN added POI files that have been downloaded using Home.
As far as I can tell, Home generates .tlv files for almost everything it downloads, such as colour schemes and sounds as well as POIs. I think it is just a description of the file, which Home uses to give information about the file in it's menu screens.
But third-party POIs do not need the *.tlv files at all, the .ov2 and the .bmp are just placed in the map folder just like they always have. |

as far as i can gather, the .tlv files are a 'device id' of sorts...
regardless, you need to have a read through the installation guide as the PGPSW speed camera installation does not utilise Home so should not generate any tlv files.

I've just uploaded a couple of POI files to my TT-one v4, as ov2 & bmp files. however the icon just shows as a red square, unless I have a corresponding .tlv file also.
The icon is correct, it just won't link to the correct ov2 file.
My TT also has a folder called POI, which contains .tlv files. If I open these in notepad they contain among other things a link to totom.com and the icon filename. So I presume this links the POI .ov2 file to the icon somehow. I think it also shares the info with other user like on mapshare
I only have these for POI downloaded from tomtom, not the ones I've loaded myself.
I've now changed the ov2 & bmp file for my tesco POI to the same as the tlv file and it's OK now.
Any idea how to edit or create the tlv file so I can get the POI icon to work correctly? |

You don't need a .tlv file for any POIs, the .tlv files just allow HOME to track what has been downloaded.
Where did the POI files you are having an issue with come from?

Sorry, had just edited my post when you replied. I meant where did he get the POIs that he was having issues with from. _________________ Darren Griffin |

I've tried various places. The tesco one came from tesco.com and a harvester one from their website. the only ones that work are the ones from tomtom loaded via TT home, as they have a .tlv file |

the filenames. If the ov2, bmp & tlv all have the same filename they seem to work OK.
What exactly is a .toc file?
I'll try downloading some from here and see if they work, but I'm sure they need a tlv file for my TT-one v4 |

No reason at all why a POI that has both .ov2 and .bmp files, both with identical filenames shouldn't work.

It's a file TT use for some downloads, not relevant here.

I can assure you that you DON'T need a .tlv file! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Which folder on the TomTom have you put the files in? _________________ Anita

the ov2 & bmp files are in E:\United_Kingdom_and_Republic_of_Ireland
the tlv files are in E:\poi.
I've tried adding the bella-italia POIs from here and they seem OK, so once I've backed up my TT, I'll try deleting all POIs and starting again |

cleared them all out and reloaded new ones and they're OK now. One point however, if I try to edit a POI, the ones I've loaded don't appear in the category list |
