I'm almost new to sat nav apart from the fact that I borrowed a neighbours TT and a friends Medion GoPal, I'm looking for a unit around £100-£120 if possible with a wide screen with UK and ROI or europe mapping and safety camera options, either TT or Garmin, whichever gets the best recommendation from the forum, my heads about done in with all the different specs and details, I don't need MP3 or Bluetooth, do I get one with an SD card slot for updating? am I better off getting a Garmin Nuvi 2**W series?, a TT One XL V2?, TT One XL Europe?, a TT One V3 or V4?, Go 720? would I be better off getting a refurbished older unit?

Handtec and TotalPDA have plenty to choose from but, which one?

Any assistance would be gratefully received

I would take a look at This device, its the new XL from TomTom with European mapping and the excellent Text To Speech system which reads out the road names etc.

Otherwise consider a 720, but if you don't need the mp3 or Bluetooth then I would think the XL above would be a better choice (less to go wrong). The XL doesn't have the SD card slot, but it does have full Euro mapping so there is plenty of storage space on the device - Mike

Was the last post a mistake or a simple "Bump" for the original post?

Have you looked at the link I supplied above? - if so does this not suit your needs? - Mike

No problem, did the link offer any potential purchase? or are you still looking at other units - Mike

Do you have a mobile with built in GPS (not iPhone)? If so then something like McGuider from TeleAtlas might suit you. They have just launched a new version which comes on a 4GB SDHC card and covers Europe (East and West). The maps appear bang up to date, even including the new Blunsdon bypass north of Swindon (which AFAIK isn't even fully complete yet). There is also support for custom POI files so you can use the excellent camera database here - much better than the freebie supplied by TeleAtlas.
Its also a relative bargin at only £59.99.

Crikey, the McGuider unit by TeleAtlas has got me thinking again, I don't know what to do, the TT and Garmin have got me tempted but I'm told that TTs customer service is not good and Garmin will supply a new unit if the first one goes phut Confused

Another decision to think about, I'll get there. Embarassed

That looks like the One XL Classic which does offer a Bluetooth connection for data only (no handsfree from the mobile phone) a decent device for navigation devoid of bells and whistles - Mike
