Can anyone tell me where TT Home puts its backup files from my TT740, and also exactly what gets backed up. I just did one and I assume it didn't backup up all 1.8GB since it didn't take long enough. I can't stand programs that don't tell you what they're doing with files. I have done a manual backup of all files anyway. _________________ Tony

Stick with Windows Explorer for the backups, the Home application is a waste of time for perfoming this vital function.
If you really need to know where TT Home has put the so called back up start the application and go to tools/ tomtom home preferences, click the folder preferences tab and the folder path will be shown - Mike |

Will do, but out of interest why do you say "so called backup" ? _________________ Tony

I have had bad experiences using Home, my 910 LoquendoTTS had all its contents re-named to lowercase, so when you put it on the device it didn't work - took ages to re-name all the files.
Whilst it doesn't look like Home is currently re-naming files it does overwrite previous backups, this I really do not agree with you should be able to keep as many backups of the device as you want.
I simply don't trust the PC based software at all so unless absolutely necessary I don't use it - Mike |

If you weren't aware, instructions for using Windows Explorer for your backups is #1 in the FAQs in the "sticky" topics at the top of this forum.
You can keep as many as you want. I recommend you make a new one before every update and put each in a separate folder named with the software/maps version and date. Older ones can be archived to DVD. |

Yes I know, but I rather foolishly thought the manufacturer knew what they were talking about and I would use their system _________________ Tony
