Hi ive just purchased a GO530 and it seems to take forever to find a satelite when I turn the thing on.
Is this normal and is there anything I can do to speed it up?

Hi you can connect to Home and download QuickGPSfix.

What software version is installed? Does this occur with the unit indoors or outside with a clear sky view?

It is worth going back to basic principles. The first ever fix can take ages as it has to work out where in the world it is from no information at all. Then it gets and stores information about where the satellites are, and it can use this information for about a week to be quicker. This info is what the QuickGPS option downloads.
A GPS will also locate you much quicker when you are at a stand-still. If you are moving, then it takes longer to get a fix as it has to work out you are moving too. |

Before you do anything Jay, read about how to back up your device here
Invaluable advice by the knowledgable guys on this forum that has saved me so much grief... 
I make an Explorer backup before ever connecting to Home... which I am tending to do less and less... if it ain't broke, don't update... because I have found that some GPSfix downloads can sometimes have an adverse effect... cursor out of position ect... I can then quickly re-install a backup with a GPSfix that was working properly
Edit... I have found that some GPSfixes do seem to take much longer in my location to find a signal... reverting to the last good one always cures this, so a GPSfix download may well cure your problem
