Both "Simple Altimeter" and "Tripmaster" both hang the TomTom after running.
TomTom seem determined to stop anyone else running software on their machines. They have obviously forgotten they started out as Palmtop BV running as 3rd party software on Psion machines!! _________________ Alan

They also seem determined to cut themselves off from a potential revenue stream in the form of users of phones running Symbian S60 with integrated GPS receivers. _________________ Kam |

I thought I'd read a post where someone had got TripMaster (amongst others) working OK on v8.300
EDIT: Found it!

Following on from this do Pocket GPS World have a contingency plan in place if Tomtom decide to exclude all 3rd part add-ons?
Tomtom obviously miss out on revenue from their safety camera database to Pocket GPS World etc.
My main concern and in a worst case scenario, is if people subscribe to the annual PGPSW safety cams and Tomtom bring out a new platform to stop 3rd party add-ons would PGPSW have to refund everyone of it’s a subscribers?.
Don't get me wrong I hope this wont happen as we all know Pocket GPS World database is the most comprehensive and up to date safety warnings around and this is the main reason I purchase Tomtom units because it excepts your own POI and 3rd party add-ons. _________________ TT Go 720 v8.204

I'm not sure it would be possible.
The way the current system works the PGPSW database is just a series of personally added POIs that maybe have an audible alert attached to them.
I don't think the TomTom can see where they come from or how they got there!
Also to stop them it would have to stop you from entering any other POIs, so again don't reckon it will happen.
Also we subscribe to the site and not to the Camera Database, so they wouldn't have to refund us.
Cheers

Ours is not an addon though, it is just POI data. Were TomTom to prevent users from adding their own custom POI data then there would be a riot!

As I said, it is highly unlikely that they would block POI data but if they did, the subscription is for access to the members area. Our Ts & Cs state quite clearly that there will be no refunds.
If TomTom block POIs then you can continue to use your sub with an alternate device and we'd all be looking for alternatives to them if they were so foolish! _________________ Darren Griffin |

Must admit I missed it. But all the other posts are negative. It would be nice to hear from anyone else who has/has not managed to get any (what) 3rd party apps to work on 8.3. There must be a few more people who run 3rd party apps? _________________ Alan

That's a bit odd because they published a software developers kit for third parties at one stage, didn't they? _________________ Gone fishing! |

And then withdrew it with the advent of v7. _________________ Darren Griffin |

And Tomtom would not get a penny of my money again I would sooner buy a road map first if they had any foolish ideas like that |

For anyone who used Tomplayer, look at the thread here on how to make it work with firmware 8.3. _________________ David
