I have noticed that my Garmin Nuvi 250 seems to be adding files after every trip. Is it maintaining a record of where I have been.

I don't know how to open the files, but the space taken up in the device memory seems to be increasing with use.

Is it logging retrievable data of my trips?

My 760 does. Not sure about non-7xx models though...

Some GPS units have a feature called a tracklog. It records the position, time, date and speed. Depending on how you drive, you may want to switch it off..... Wink

I remember hearing a story about someone who got off a speeding ticket because of his track log on his Garmin, I think it was in Australia.

Then there was the motorcyclist, who went back to the crash sceen and found his GPS (weeks later, it was a Garmin handheld), It proved the serious crash unit were correct when they said he was going 1.5 times the speed limit just before he put himself in hospital, even though he was certain he was not speeding......

So it all depends entirely what you have gain from the truth, and what you may want to hide. Very Happy

Thanks all for the replies, I think I have nailed it.

It's adding files to the recently found menu. Doh!

I looked at the tracking function, but the current OS doesn't support it, if you want it you have to install an earlier version.

Garmin Nuvi 250, good device, very pleased with it, Driving, Walking and at Sea. Does exactly what I want.

Am I the only one finding the "Jump to: Beginners GPS Lounge" doesn't work and results in a "this Module is not active message".

No, you're not - the Jump to isn't working for me either (I've never used it before).

I'll see what is to be done about it.

Right, enquiries made and apparently it has never worked since day one! Embarassed ... and it looks as if nobody on the team knows how to fix it.

Anyone out there who knows how to fix it? Smile

Surely we've got a member with name BobTheBuilder?

Probably Andy_P will suggest you switch the site to Enigma Code. Confused

Glad it's not just me then.
Surely the drop down option list, that lets you choose a forum to "Jump To", should just link to the relevant page URL, or am I missing something.
