Does anyone know how to replace the battery in the Go 910, or know if it is even possible outside the facotry?
Having taken everything to pieces, it still seems impossible to get the old battery out, as the opening at the back is not quite big enough, and it catches against the hard drive inside.
That would mean removing the LCD screen and hard drive, but the screen seems to be clipped in really securely on all 4 sides, and I am afraid to break it.
Thanks

Thanks Andy
The question is - how much force is required to prise out the old battery? And how to apply it without damaging the unit.
The post doesn't say.
There is a slot under there, where you can get a scredriver in or something, and then lever up against the battery, but it didn't come out when I tried that - I gues I will try again and use more force.

It does take some considerable force to extract the battery from the casting, but it does come out as the pictures show, what I did was carefully prise the battery out from its slot using a screw driver working progresively from each end of the cell. A small movement at one end, then repeat the small movement at the other end of the cell, working the battery in this way switching the leverage from one end to the other for the first few MM is all that is required, once the cell has moved the a small distance it will come out - Mike |

Hi Mike
No, I just cracked the aluminium chassis now, near the ribbon where it is thin.
Don't want to keep trying that route.
Unit still working though - tested with the new battery.
The battery seems to be at least 5mm wider than the gap there.
Even if I force the old one out, there will be a problem getting the new one in without damage.
It must be possible to remove the screen - do you know how to do that without breaking it?
There are 3 clips on each side, so maybe it just snaps in.
Thanks

OK, I just finished replacing the battery on my 910. As it turns out, it is quite easy to take off the LCD screen. Just use a very small flat screwdriver or blade etc. to gently prise open the trim and clips which are holding it in place.
The screen will just lift out. Take care not to pull any of the cables.
Now you can see the hard drive, which is not fixed in, but just held in place with shock absorbing pads. It will just lift out.
Now you can replace your old battery.
Whatever you do, don't take Mike's lousy advice and use force, as you will damage the unit's chassis. Fortunately, it does not seem to have adversely affected the unit so far, but it is a little weaker if it ever gets dropped or something.

Paul | Ican assure you the unit I have allows the battery to come out via the method I explained, it is possible they changed the battery supplier later in the build in the same way they changed the hard drive supplier - Mike |

My replacement battery from batterymill was exactly the same size as the original. Anyway, now you know how to do it. You should never have to use force with electronics. |

Rather harsh!
Mike has offered a wealth of advice on many subjects, always accurate in my experience. Have a look at his post count to see how much help he has offered. His advice is just that advice you can decide to take it or leave it. Try it your own way if you want.
Thank you for letting us know how you got on. |

I saw your extreme comment first thing this morning and was about to reply but I got a callout, so it has had to wait until tonight.
As has already been pointed out, Mike has a huge reputation on this website for his expertise and excellent advice. By comparison, you are classified as a beginner, so it behoves you to show a bit of respect. Note the difference between you - Mike posted up a series of photos covering his work - all we have from you is that it seems you took a crowbar to the machined aluminium casing and busted it. Your "final solution" comes complete with not a single illustration, so I doubt whether anyone else will follow your lead.
Mike added "carefully prise the battery out from its slot using a screwdriver working progressively from each end of the cell. A small movement at one end, then repeat the small movement at the other end".
His first thread came with a huge red warning that if you don't know what you're doing, don't do it (or something like that). It seems you didn't notice that. _________________ Dennis
