Favourites are kept in a FILE called mapsettings.cfg that resides in the map folder.

Strictly speaking it's "MapSettings.cfg" Smile

Upper and lower case don't matter in Windows, but do in Linux which the TT uses.

It is re-created when you use the Map for the first time.

Do you mean you can't find it in the map folder on the machine, or the one on your backup?

Are you looking in the NAMED map folder? (ie "Western Europe" or something like that not a folder called "maps")

Are you looking in the right Backup, if you have more than one?

It is an Explorer Backup, isn't it?

explorer backup. one i did this morning with all the new maps (720) on it. mind you, I hadn't used it since updating the maps so maybe my favourites might not have been recreated post map upgrade? might that be the issue?

It could be. Have you a Backup of your previous Map?

If so try copying that to the new Map, to see if it works.

I believe doing this has had mixed success, but it might work.
