Has anyone tried installing V8 maps on x20 TT with Navcore 8.010.
I am only asking because when I tried to add V8 maps from the TT website under x20 you are not offered V8 maps, but it appears that if you purchase using x30 as your model then V8 maps are available.
So will TT let you activate the latest map for x20 range?

V8 mapping is not currently released for the x20 range so you cannot try the vs8 map on your device, they will work once released if your device is running version 8 software (which was available for the x20 range until TT removed it) - Mike |

Thanks for the quick response Mike.
I was not sure if the maps were model specific.

But the idea behind the question was.
If I go to TomTom website, select GO x30 as my device and buy a map on their webpage, will HOME allow me to download this map on x20 device ?
Has anyone actually tried this ? |

Anyone noticed the price difference...v8 maps for the x30 range are £50, compared with £40 for the v7.20 on everything else. I mean fairs-fair, new map means they could charge a little more, but isn't 25% more a little extortionate, or is this extra cost for the extra map features? |

That is EXACTLY why - as actually mentioned somewhere by TT, but I forget where I saw it officially.
The extra fee is because of the extra features of V8 maps in terms of IQ Routing data. |

So, did anyone take the plunge and pretend they had a x30 and buy a new map and get it working on a x20????
Looking at the toc files in Home from when I have downloaded a map previously they specify what the target device is, so you may not even be able to download it unless a compatible device is plugged in.
I don't fancy risking it!

Unless there is a special case because the x20 and x30 models are so similar, I wouldn't risk it.
It used to be that you could "cheat" and say you had a different model when you bought a map (in order to get the less compressed version, for example), but around February this year people started reporting that the map they had bought wouldn't work.
I'm sure it got mentioned on this forum, but I remember posting about it HERE as well. |

Hi
I took the plunge and tried it and it worked. Bought GB map v8.05 through tomtom website and downloaded it through tomtom home and it installed no problems. Everything seems to be fine and working, going to try it tomorrow on the motorway. |

Done it too on my 520 all working fine and at £39 bargin I think, going to be alot more when they finally release them for the x20's proper and the sale finishes. If not then my fault for taking the chance. _________________ TomTom Go 950 Live.

Well I've decided to wait because there's only about 18% off the WE maps and when v8 maps are released fopr the X20s, they'll be more up-to-date. They should be worth the £20 or so extra. _________________ TT Go Essential |
