I think I've mentioned on a previous post that my S90i doesn't warn of the M1 traffic issues between J12 and 6A (M25) until I get to M1 J14. On the Friday afternoon before Spring Bank Holiday we were driving down to Kent. As my wife was driving I was able to have a good look at what info the TMC was picking up and compare it to the traffic info available on mobile phone on 1740. This was telling me of a 40 minute delay on the M1 plus another 40 minute delay on the M25 between the M1 and A1 junctions whereas the S90i traffic info stopped well North of this. I checked the A14 (M1 J19) and the M11 on 1740 and decided on this route instead.

Does anyone know what is limiting this range of info? Is it just that the radio stations only carry information for the surrounding area or the Navman that limits what it pays attention to? Either way it makes TMC a waste of space if it has such a limited range.

That's odd. On both my S90i and Navigon MN4, when I am at home in north Lancashire, I can see data pertaining to incidents occurring as far north as Carlisle and, astonishingly, as far south as Northampton! Presumably the "geographical range" of data is down to what data the transmitter is set up to handle - in my case it is the Morecambe Bay one.

Hmm! I guess Northampton would have been roughly where the coverage ended and as we decided to exit at J19 (A14) and had a long stay in Nottingham getting a turbo pipe fixed, I'm guessing that we must have been somewhere around J22 or maybe a liitle bit further North.

I've just been checking the settings and interestingly, to get traffic event notification turned on, you have to select "Notify me about nearby traffic events". This probably gives the game away.

Cheers

Paul
