I decided to update my TT1 V2 GB by purchasing a 520T, mainly for the occasional handsfree use and text to speech.

Updated the SW to latest (was this my mistake) but couldnt update the map using LMG for some reason. This turned out to be faulty, file access errors and some calls werent been routed to the HF-TT suggested the clear flash tool which didnt work so took it back to Halfords who quickly exchanged it for

2nd TT 520, was 7.0XX SW version so updated to 7.221? from Oldboys site (thanks) and used LMG to get maps. This unit when plugged to 12v supply with supplied cable asks to connect to computer then switched off after 3 mins of non use. Also couldnt navigate using voice, just sat on please wait a moment. Just took it back to same guy at Halfords who has given me a 3rd unit.

So, I hope this one works, as I will have to start raiding hotmail for new email accounts!

Just done a backup of the virgin machine using explorer and currently getting the maps via LMG. SW 7.221 is already on this one so will leave it at that.

Fingers crossed for this one then eh?

Steve

Who is your internet service provider?

NTL/Virgin allow something like 15 e-mail addresses, BT allow something like 10 e-mail addresses

...and if DennisN can register each of his devices with a different e-mail address, there should be plenty of scope for the rest of us before we begin to run out

Yeah, I know, im with VM and I do get loads, just only have 3 active at the moment.

It seems that this latest one works, or at least it does now. Initially the voice recognition didnt work but (after explorer backup) I updated to 7.443 or whatever the latest is it works and it seems that everything else does too, or at least those things that plagued the other 2 are OK on this one!

Thanks for your input, I am going to mail support to ask them to remove all codes assigned to the other email addresses just in case!

I discovered the easy way to do this was to give each device a number, so I started with go720-01@myISP, then -02, and so on up to -07 (so you'll need to think of a better numbering convention - maybe #01 if that'll work). In between newer numbers, I simply deleted the old email address and replaced it with the new one. I didn't bother TomTom's sweet innocent little head about it, they wouldn't have been able to find an auto response button to match (would that bother them?). But I imagine that some poor soul there is sending me loads of TT junk emails and they're just wending their merry way off into the internet, to wander like the Flying Dutchman (even so, I still get 5 versions of every offer etc, because I still scan two old email accounts in case anybody sends me anything).

I bought my own domain name, so I could have unlimited email addresses all forwarded on to the same email account.

Once you purchase a domain with mail forwarding, set up an email address as *@whatever.com, and forward that to your hotmail account. now every email sent to that domain, no matter what the name, will be forwarded to your email acount.

You can buy a .co.uk for about £10 for 2 years, I bought a .com for £10 per year, and as all my email is forwarded to my gmail account, I don't need to back it up.

Thats a good plan you have there!!

Im on tt520 no 3 and hope it doesnt get that bloody far!

Having minor bother with this one now but not as bad as the other 2.

I can either get voice recognition working or wireless data through a N6233 but not together????!?!?

Halfords will have a pile of these to get returned by the end of my 28 days, I can just see it coming!

Thanks again, Steve
