From today’s local paper:
Quote: | Motorists in Sussex have shelled out around £3 million in speed camera fines in the last year. |
Quote: | Sussex Safer Roads Partnership said that the running costs of speed cameras was around £2.7 million, so little profit is being made. |
I'm surprised they only make 11% profit.

Quote from Observer
"Emma Rogers from the Sussex Safer Roads Partnership said that the running costs of speed cameras was around £2.7 million, so little profit is being made..........
What we really want to see is zero people caught on our cameras, but in the meantime we're pleased with this figure."
She Lies. They're all b*****y liars. If zero people were caught, then the revenue from the cams would go down by £3M leaving them saddled with the running costs of £2.7M. I'm certain that this would not come under the heading of 'improvements' like once per two weeks rubbish collection is. |

WHAT?! 300 grand is a "little profit"? Sounds more like a license to print money to me. And you can rest assured that they blew as much money as they could on running costs to try and minimise profits....
So they are pleased with the amount of profit they are making. I have to wonder why they don't tell us how much safer the Sussex roads are though. Probably because despite extorting over 3 million pounds from Sussex motorists, the cameras didn't make a damned bit of difference... _________________ Gone fishing! |

Interesting - 73,000 speeding vehicles snapped, 50,000 fines issued. What happened to 23,000? Were 1 in 3 of all snaps not justified? Emergency vehicles on call?
The article is headed "Fixed Cameras" and talks about speeding. If I'm not mistaken, there seem to be about 40 fixed Speed cameras on our DB for West & East Sussex. Anita is a sums person, so I hope I get this right - say 2,000 snaps per camera in a year, say 5 a day per camera - helluva cost basis at £2.7m. Helluva nice little earner at £75,000 per camera - I'd go out there myself every day with a laser thingy to get you all for that sort of money!
I suppose my comments put in place the ridiculous lack of accuracy with this report. It's such a shame they don't offer a comments facility to go with the article. _________________ Dennis

You couldn't afford such a large pay cut, Dennis - when you're used to a footballer's salary of more than that each week
Besides, it'd be a helluva commute from K-E-Y-N-S-H-A-M, just to play with a laser thingy
Maybe you should delegate - you take the £75,000 and get Anita to stand around her own patch with a laser thingy, calculating how much she's earning you _________________ Andy

Pity you didn't suggest this sooner, GPS_fan, so I could have done it on Monday when the bikers were roaring through the 30mph limit in the village at 60 on their way to their rally in Hastings. Strangely, although the police know it happens on all the roads in the area every May Day holiday, they're never around with their laser thingies. They only get them out to catch the motorists doing 35! _________________ Anita
