hi all
tomtom one v2 europe
i don't want to use my standard windscreem mount as it keeps falling from screen and also i don't like the visibility of it when parked.
i have a magnetic mount that i used to use with an old mobile phone:
(you stick a thin metal piece to the back of phone / tomtom and the circular strong magnet you can stick to a convenient part of your dashboard).
now my question is: will the magnet harm the workings of the tom tom? i don't want to use this method if there is a risk.
it is a much cheaper discreet mounting than others i have seen advertised that attach to the air vent fins.
any advice appreciated.
thanks
tony.

Only the TomTom Go-700 or Go-910 contained magnetic hard drives so I wouldn't be to concerned about using a mag mount with any device other than those listed above.
I have a very strong magnet on one of my phones (Ameo) and it has never caused a problem when put in the same pocket as the One XL, 720 etc. - Mke

Just a thought... do ANY satnavs have actual compasses in them? Presume the accelerometers in the new TTs don't use magnetism do they?

thanks mike
so in your opinion there is no harm in giving this a try?
i must say, if it works, it is a very cost effective solution to this problem as these magnetic mounts can be bought on ebay for just a few pounds (delivered).

My only concern is that the magnetic holder can restrain the device in the event of a crash, a TomTom flying around in the cab of a car could do some serious injury.
Andy there are some nav units with electronic compasses in them, the Satmap active10 for example, but this is pure off road/ walking and I would never put that near the Ameo or a strong magnet.
The "gyro" system in the higher end 920/ 930 devices is not magnetic based so I doubt it would suffer - Mike
