Looking at getting a sony GPS for the car. However I have heard that the scrren touch sometimes does not work. Also do they have POI with the telephone numbers.
Also what about there speed camera database, is it any good do they update it often and how much does it cost. Is it better than the pocket gps world database.
Is sony the way to go or is there others that are better?
many thanks _________________ Tom Tom One Series 30 with TMC

Save some money and go purchase a Sat Nav unit from an established Navigation supplier rather than a company relying upon the name it has built up selling domestic electronic goods - great for HiFi/ TV etc but that is as far as it goes.
Take a trip to your local Halfords or PC World and have a play with devices from the likes of TomTom and Garmin, see which you prefer as this is very much down to personal choice, there are some real bargain priced units available at the moment. For example the TomTom 720 was £330 when it came out last year, some 9 months later it can be found for under £170 - Mike |

Try a search on the word Sony and read some of the posts, its a device with limited following and limited support, the simple fact that a number of users resorted to hacking the unit then installing TomTom PDA based software to them speaks for itself - Mike |

I have a Sony NV-U93T.
My touch screen works just fine.
You can call POIs hands-free, the numbers are pre-stored on the unit. I'd advise checking that your phone is compatible.
I don't use the speed camera database, there are none where I live.
The dash-board holder is very good, sucks on to any dash, even rough textured ones. So, no need to risk damaging your windscreen. The device detaches from the holder and power lead at the touch of a button. It will fit in to a coat pocket, and you can use it for navigating on foot. Battery power lasts about 2.5 hours. |

Was looking at this Sony myself, have a TT710 at the moment, and it is due a change. Just to big and bulky these days.
Some concerns with the Sony I've read though are around the POis and camera database not being compatible with the stuff here because Sony use their own formats.
if so, then that is a big no no for me. _________________ Triumph Tbird 1700. And now a Bonnie T100. |
