Many built-in systems run off DVD rather than flash memory and, as such, are not updateable with this database.

For example, with the Toyota system, it's about £300 to update the map DVD alone

Many thanks; cost for satnav as extra are way out of order too!

Volvo unveils "Smart sat nav solution"

"Swedish motor manufacturer Volvo has designed a new, smarter way to store a satellite navigation device (sat nav).

Drivers traditionally place their portable systems in casing stuck the the windscreen by suction cups, leaving wires hanging down in an untidy fashion.

However, the automaker has made a mounting bracket compatible with Garmin’s latest sat nav system, the nuvi 760.

Volvo added that the kit has passed all of its ergonomic, sight and crash tests.

"The unit is also compatible with a number of Bluetooth phones, doubles up as an MP3 player and comes preloaded with detailed two and three dimensional maps covering the UK, Ireland and EU," the company stated.

A satellite navigation system uses satellites from space to convey a motorist’s position and guide him or her to their destination accordingly.

Downloadable content can be added, including famous voices to direct the motorist.

Thanks Mike.

Oh.. I was hoping it was a mount built into the dash so it's flush with the rest of the controls etc. Oh well, i'll just stick to the built in battery and suffer Rolling Eyes the cables everywhere on long trips for the TMC.

Really it's just a non-removable mount (or a mount that costs £35,000 plus Road Fund License) that's bound to shout "Hey, you never know, there maybe a Nuvi 760 in the glove compartment!"

I note it doesn't mention if there is a built in TMC cable (or will you need your power lead / TMC Cable combo as well???
