I received my map update 2008 City Navigator Europe NT dvd from Garmin today and loaded on the uk and ireland,I noticed the dvd covers all europe maps - can I have france as well as uk loaded on the nuvi, perhaps on sd card

Yes. I have done exactly that with a Nuvi 300. You will need an SD card; 2GB will hold all of Europe. You then use the MapInstall program that should have been installed when you updated the UK mapping and select the regions you want and transfer them to the SD card.
