Using PiN with other software

As the PiN is a Mitac Mio 168 what is required to run other software with it?

I would like to use it as a general GPS with software like GPSDash (for example). I'm running the software but it doesn't seem to see the GPS (Com2, 4800). Any ideas?

This should work out of the box. Are you sure there is no other program running in th background? Do you hae TomTom Navigator installed?

It uses SmartST but it's not running at the same time.

I'll try again and see what it does.

You will need to make sure that SmartST is not running as only one application can use the GPS data at a time, unless you use a utility such as GpsGate which allows you to share the GPS data with several applications on a virtual COM port.

Had another try. Wathcing the 'Data' paletteI see a lot of timeouts, but also plenty of GPS data (including the correct co-ordinates for my location).

But none of the dash screens show anything meaningful.

Is trickle mode enabled? maybe a factory reset of the GPS is in order.

Where is 'Trickle Mode' set?

I'll try a basic reset, then a full factory one and see what happens.

Mind you, I bring the unit inside and it keeps scrolling this data. Does the GPS keep sending the same data if it doesn't get new data? This whole GPS thing is a bit new to me.

Timeouts will occur if you don't have a good view of the sky. Any GPS application will work with the Mio 168, PiN 100 and PiN 300 as I have half a dozen other utils working on these without problem.

You need to set the app to use COM2 NMEA 9600 as this is what the GPS Receiver is configured to.

Really! Everything I've seen (including the SmartST manual) says it's 4800.

It depends, checking one of the Mio's last night it's set at 9600 and I haven't changed the baud rate, but another one is running at 4800. It really depends on what baud rate yours is set at. If 4800 isn't working then I'd try 9600.
