which sat nav

hi guys im after a sat nav, i want one that i can add poi,s of french camping sites and aires easily,i dont need anything to technical like bluetooth, photos,ipod etc just a simple one with a large screen. i have been reading a lot of the posts on here and think that a tomtom one xl europe would be a good choice am i correct or is there any others.thanks in advance...just like to say what an excellent site this is well done to the mods and the posters

The one XL is an excellent choice for what you have detailed in way of a specification. There is a review of the XL on this site written last year, have a read of it for more information.
I would also look at the 720 if you want mp3 player or hands free mobile phone, but the 720 is quite a bit dearer - Mike

Mike - I have to agree with you, however given this is a beginners lounge, not the TomTom one, you should probably say these are from TomTom.

I know some people think they are the only SatNav manufacturer left Very Happy

. However good they are, they do still have some competition (at least for a couple more years anyway).

The OP had named the TomTom One XL as the chosen device and against the spec they list I would agree it fully meets the requirements, it is also the most intuative and easiest to use for a newcomer IMHO.

There are other devices as you correctly point out - perhaps a quick trip to the local Halfords showroom to try out the competition is in order should you want demos of the Navman or Garmin and other products - Mike
