Hi
I've used tomtom for approx 18 months and want to buy a gps setup for my dad (he's 70 so something that works without lots of setting up would be best). I think a pocketpc plus tomtom may be a little complicated and thought the street pilot may do the job.
I'd like some feedback as to how usable it is what the maps are like and what the voice and display is like (is it loud and does if offer a 3d view?) especially compared to a pocketpc setup.
Also he drives a bmw 3 series with a treated screen so I guess an external antenna would be needed?
Ideally I want him to be able to use it without hassling me all the time!

As you correctly surmise, a PPC solution is not quite plug'n'play so may not be ideal for your father.
The SPIII does not have 3d maps but it is easy to use and works very well. A good alternative may be Navmans iCN630, the v2 which does have 3d maps, PostCode routing etc or the SPIII's successor the 2610 which also has a remote control.
You will most likely need a remote antenna or a re-radiating antenna in this scenario.
Any of these 3 will be straightforward to use and all have loud voice prompts _________________ Darren Griffin

You'll need a PC to upload the maps initially but that's it. They cost more because they are custom designed and hence have a smaller potential market. _________________ Darren Griffin
