Very simple question, I thought this would be a FAQ but I've just had a quick look through the forum and can't see the answer. I am going to take advantage of the TT half price offer on upgrading my 910 maps. Do the Europe maps include the UK ones with all the same detail or do I need both ?

The Western Europe and the Western & Central Europe Maps cover the UK. Smile

That's more of an FAQ for the TomTom site, than this forum?

If you go to the map purchase page and select a map, there is some red text that says "show detailed map information" Click on that, and it does.
For example, the W+C Europe map says
Quote:
Map of Western & Central Europe v7.10
With this map you can navigate door-to-door anywhere in 25 countries across Western & Central Europe. The following countries are included: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Hungary, Monaco, Norway, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Republic of Ireland, the Netherlands and Vatican City
(my bold text)
It also shows the coverage as a graphic.

That example came from THIS PAGE

I thought this was the TomTom Go forum, and I have a TomTom 910. I rather thought it would be a simple question for people here, with a one word answer. Also, the TomTom site doesn't seem to have forums and my question is not in their FAQ.

Yes, I had looked at the page you describe, but the very reason I posted this message was that the distinction between the 2 products was not immediately obvious to me, they both offer door to door navigation. I assume they are the same then and the reason TomTom leave it confusing is in the hope that people will mistakenly buy both ?

Can anyone give me a one word answer to my question - yes or no, please

Yes.

The Europe maps (both "West" and "West & Central") include the UK as shown in the list of countries in Andy's quote.

Now let me see, what was the question again?

The answer is "Yes" or "No", depending on which answer you want. Rolling Eyes

What I meant was why should PGPSW create an FAQ about specific MAP coverage when they don't sell them or have anything to do with them?
FAQs on THIS site are just that - frequently asked questions. If the question ain't asked frequently....

I pointed you to a source of information which gave the answer, and even highlighted the relevant text. No confusion I could see.

It was done in the spirit of "teach a man to fish...", but hey, you can't please all the people all the time.

As for your supplementary question...
No.

....There, I tried to answer in one word, but it just isn't enough.
The VERSION NUMBER may well be the same, but the DETAIL may be reduced on different versions of the map supplied for different models, in order to fit the map into the available space on that model.

I'm sorry folks, I wasn't deliberately trying to be awkward, but when I originally looked at the quoted TT link (before my original post) I genuinely found it confusing.

The description of the UK map says -
"Detailed map of Great Britain. Street network coverage greater than 99%"

The description of the Europe map says -
With this map you can navigate door-to-door anywhere in 25 countries across Western & Central Europe."

The fact that the Europe one doesn't boast about the street coverage lead me to think it might be less detailed, however, "door to door" implies street level coverage, although it might be poetic license. Thus I ended up confused and still am to a degree. I think I will just buy both to make sure.

BTW can someone please tell me why I couldn't include the greater than sign in the above post (hence my edit of the original TT text), I tried disabling HTML and BBCode.

By the same reasoning why should PGPSW create a FAQ about anything to do with TomTom GO's when they don't sell them.
I did check the TT FAQs and as I said they don't seem to have forums, although I may be mistaken. I thought I was asking a perfectly reasonable innocent question, but I obviously opened a can of worms.

It's only a can of worms because often there isn't a simple one word answer.

We are damned if we do and damned if we don't.

To the level of accuracy that you PROBABLY need, we could have easily said "Yes" the map is the same. But then there would be a flurry of replies from other people saying "Ahh but this little street is different" etc. all of which has been gone through before.

The level of accuracy I need/want is to a given house number, which my current UK TT map achieves pretty well most of the time. I like to go somewhere new and know when TT says I'm there I'm probably OK to park the car and then go searching for house numbers on foot. If I cannot be sure that the GB part of the Europe map achieves exactly the same accuracy as the UK one then I will indeed buy both.

The Western Europe map DOES give you that level of accuracy.
You certainly do not need to buy both maps.
To all intents and purposes, the UK part of the Western Europe map is identical to the UK map.

There are some tiny differences, but nothing to worry about in normal use.

I only have the Western Europe map on my Go720 and it works exactly like the UK map on my old Go300.
