|

Being reported now in some north American TomTom forums is that there is new firmware version 2.221 for the TomTom 720 which allows allows for Speech Recognition inputting addresses one wants to navigate to.
One user says it works.
I know this is old hat for UK (and other European users, I guess) but it certainly is a new feature for the North american version, if the information is accurate. |

Hopefully we're be able to download this from Home or will it be like Map updates
My 720 should be delivered today by Purolator though there is no-one at home to collect it now !! - It was supposed to be delivered yesterday.
I'll test out the speech recognition and get back to the forum |

Ugh.....
Seems like I was premature in my original post.
One user DID report getting SR to work on his 720 but it was through file manipulation, not because of a firmware dl.
Sorry..... |

Here is how to get it to work on the 720...no guarantees though.
" Just know that you might not always be able to make the trick work. TomTom could certainly disable the trick from working in the future with additional application updates. "
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Well then ........
You need to create a text file support_asr.dat and just put 1 in the file. Then copy it to the ASR directory on the unit.
You MUST have firmware version 7.221 AND North_America map version 7.10 for this to work " |

Works very well thank you, did the support_asr.dat text file in Notepad with 1 in it and copied it to the ASR folder the two icons were present and they work like a charm. Start Tomtom, press Navigate to, press address and your there, have fun

Yep works as stated.
the speech recognition is a bit poor if you haven't got a Canadian/North american accent but needless to say its fun to use.
And if anyone is interested my device came brand new with old app and old maps and both upgraded through Home without any problems at all.
so I won't be doing a Dennis N |
