|
|
Just downloaded (separate files per category) the Golf Clubs POI's from here but when unzipped just shows a POIs file (without extension) of 44kb. I was expecting/hoping to see loads of separate .bmp & .ov2 files.
Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with this file? |

The Golf Club POI consists of 1816 locations. These are all contained in the one OV2 File, with just the one BMP File.
Why would you expect to see "loads of separate .bmp & .ov2 files"? The Golf Club POI is a sub-category and is not further divided.
Is the reason you can't see an extension on the File, because Explorer is set to "Hide Extensions of Known File Type". _________________ Richard

OK, I assumed there'd be loads of OV2/BMP files but now understand.
I never tick this "Hide Extensions of Known File Type" on my PC but as I say it just shows a file of 44kb with no extension.
Just tried another catagory & get the same result. I can open the file in notepad & it just shows gobbledegook: |

44Kb is the download size of the File. Just add a ".zip" to the Filename and try that.
It has been known for certain PC Setups to strip the extension.
In summary the File you download should be called POIs.zip, from which you can extract both Files, and then these can be copied to the Map Folder.
The reason Notepad doesn't like it is because it's not a Text File. _________________ Richard

Windows comes with it already ticked. You have to UN-tick it in Windows Explorer (or My Computer) go to Tools Menu / Folder Options / "View" tab. It is the eleventh item down in the "Advanced settings" box.
It is well worth doing this, so you can see what you are doing!

It will. The file format for POIs is called "ov2" you cannot read it directly, but if you load it into a program called "POI Edit" you will be able to see all the individual items inside. (You can get POI Edit HERE, but you DON'T need it to load the poi files onto your TomTom).
But to get to the ov2 you will have to "un-zip" the file you download as it is compressed. To do that, just right click on it and select "extract all".
THen you should get the ov2 and bmp files which you copy into your map folder on the TomTom.
EDIT: Beaten by Oldboy again... |

thanks guys, I understand all that but it just doesn't work for me.
Could someone please maybe check out the Rifle Club POI's (as a small example) & see if it works for them?
I would attach the screenshot of the folder but can't figure it out. (I've got the paint .bmp)
PS I've never had any problems with speedcam POI's from here?!?!
SUSSED IT!
If I also tick "show link" then hit the download from that screen it works fine so I think there maybe a problem d/l direct? |

It's been noted before that some PC Setups seem to have a problem, but glad that it's sorted. _________________ Richard
