|

Bought my GO 720 a couple of months ago, and was quite pleased that routes could be planned without the need for it to have a GPS signal (unlike my old Dell PDA +Nav 5 package)
Now it seems it doesn't work that way anymore which is a real pain. Was this a "fix" applied in an update? |

You can do Advanced Planning A - B with a GPS Fix, although in V7 it's now called Prepare Route. _________________ Richard

Hi all,
I have also bought a GO 720 recently and have a similar issue in that I can't plan a detailed route when I have got a GPS signal - by this I mean being able to set a start point other than the current position, and add more than one waypoint.
"Prepare Route" will let me plan with a GPS fix but will only let me add one waypoint using "Travel Via" , so I need to be able to use "Itinerary planning" mode, but this seems to always takes the current position as the start point.
Hmm, I used to be able to do this no problem with my old Mio 269!
Does anyone know if there's a workaround for this, or if it is possible to disable GPS reception? If disabling GPS is possible I think I can make the GO think that it is starting from an alternative point using Demo mode.
TIA. |

This will allow you to set a Current Position and to plan routes and Itineraries. The GPS is disabled at this time as the GO is merely a Card Reader. _________________ Richard

Thanks Oldboy, doing it through HOME works fine. Bit of a shame that you can't do it while out on the road but perhaps that's expecting too much . |

I read a post on this topic a long time ago where one fellow wrapped the top part of his TomTom in aluminum foil in order to block the GPS signal! |

That will have the first waypoint as the first point to go to from your "current position" and at the time when you actually want to use the itinerary, you WILL want to start from wherever you are at that time, surely (even if it's only 5 feet from the first waypoint)? _________________ Dennis

If there is no GPS signal, you can plan and run an itinerary. Prepare the itinerary in the usual way and then start it. If there is no GPS signal, you will be asked if you wish to specify a Start position, and when you have done so it will calculate the itinerary in the same way as if you had done it using TomTom Home.
I first saw this feature after updating to v7 - I'm pretty sure it wasn't there with v6

That's absolutely true, but I want to be able to plan itineraries, for example, in countries other than the UK (when my current position is in the UK) to calculate the mileage and time involved, and I can't do that with a GPS signal present because the GO always insists on navigating to the first waypoint from the current position during planning/calculating.

No, the problem is that I can't plan an itinerary when there is a GPS signal! |
